ok, i am SO ready for this school year to be ovah. between rving for four months and moving, i have officially declared this school year a state of emergency...send in the u.s. guard--we are just doing basics. and we started with such high hopes--unit studies on character (only got halfway through the book), us history (umm, the boring "back-up" readers have resurfaced), the election (we were glued to cnn for five months straight, now i can't even remember what anderson cooper looks like) and california history (california???? what? we are in indiana now); great science experiments (again, the boring"back-up" readers have resurfaced) and our beautiful feet maps (ok, we FINALLY finished the first book from last year).
but now, we are barely inking through the basics (readin', writin' and 'rithmetic). i was feeling like a failure but then i made a list of the things that we did do...
1. drove through 31 states in four months and managed not to leave anyone on the side of the road (man or child)
2. visited national parks like yellowstone, mt. rushmore and disney world (that is a national park, right??)
3. checked out the white house for barack and michelle...
4. kai learned how to solve math equations in between reading about 50 books on her own this year
5. colby learned math and division tables in spite of staring out of a window the majority of this school year. most importantly, he accepted Christ as his Savior
6. kennedy learned how to read and do simple addition after begging me to give her school work like the big kids
7. bryce learned that if he whined and asked the same question enough times, his mother would eventually give up in exasperation and defeat (oops, that is not such a good one)
8. as of two weeks ago, i officially have no children in diapers or pull-ups at night (however, if you are my facebook friend, you will see that i might need to monitor the fluid intake of one child a little more closely). now i realize i cannot blame my high target bill on the price of diapers...
9. totally blew that whole "socialization" of home schooled kids argument out of the water as the kids learned to adapted rather quickly (a little too) to life in indiana and have made an arsenal of friends
10. managed to pick up and leave home to see what exciting things God has in store for us next...(all in three weeks).
but what does this have to do with vomit and pink...nothing...besides the fact that kennedy had literally a 12 hour bug (throwin' up at 8am, eatin' tacos by 5pm. huh?) and bryce had pink eye this past week. i'm really ready for the school year to be ovah'. then i remember this verse...
after Jesus, 12, was found in the temple by Joseph and Mary...
"Then he {Jesus} went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But his mother {Mary} treasured all these things in her heart." Luke 2:51
my time is short with my kiddies--when i am their world. soon, i pray, they will be salt and light in the world but until then, i need to treasure all the time i have with them. it's the little things about them that i want to remember when they are grown and gone...
and on a completely other note, kai started softball---MAJOR league, baby! i am so proud of her. she is the youngest one on the team. if i was being completely honest, we were a little worried how she would handle it. but she is coming through like a ROCK STAR...(i think she got her mother's stellar athletic ability...)
